Using LNV: Some Nuts and Bolts

Face to face work can not simply be replaced by technology, but technology can allow us to work with and connect educators in ways we previously could not.  There is work that needs to be conducted face to face, however, there is much work that can be achieved effectively and allow ideas to be connected in new ways via remote technologies. 

Remember: We are still teaching!

Meeting or teaching via video conferencing requires the same planning, principles of good pedagogy, and effective learning structures as traditional meetings/instruction as well as additional planning for effective use of the technology.

As you learn about Video Conferencing, look for connections between what you know about structuring learning experiences and what you are learning about this technoology.  How can you build a video conference experience that will move learning forward?

When planning a video conference (collobration, course instruction, training, meeting, or virtual field trip), start by asking what it is you want to accomplish for the learners/participants.   

Technology will always change...

...but learning to better communicate and collaborate will be important to participants wether they meet face to face, via videoconferencing, or intergalactic telecommunications.  It is important that the focus be on the work/content and that we practice good facilitating/teaching that is valuable to the participants.
